Briggs Review

The Review of the Structure of the Civil Courts being undertaken by Lord Justice Briggs is probably the most significant piece of work to be undertaken on reforming civil justice since the Woolf Report in 1996. It proposes amongst other things developing an "online Court" following in the footsteps of ideas long championed by Professor Richard Susskind. However one of the challenges of judicially led reform initiatives is encouraging our judicial leadership to look beyond the confines of the courtroom and the judicial process, and to address wider issues of unmet legal needs in the community - including issues that never come to court but where unlawful actions affect peoples lives.
