NEW ALL PARTY GROUP ON PUBLIC LEGAL EDUCATION LAUNCHED

All Party Group on Public Legal Education launched

A key strand and set of recommendations from the Low Commission were around improving Public Legal Education and the levels of legal capability and awareness. To take these forward we have launched an All Party Group on Public Legal Education; the group was launched on Feb 23rd with the following officers:-

Chair: Tom Tudendhat
Vice-Chair (Lords): Lord Low
Vice-Chair (Commons): Yvonne Fovargue MP
Treasurer: Andy Slaughter MP
Secretary: Alex Chalk MP

Others involved in the group include Sir Edward Garnier MP, Christina Rees MP, Dominic Grieve MP, Jonathan Djanogly MP, Nick Dakin MP and Lord Bach. It has been establish with the support and encouragement of Robert Buckland the Solicitor General.

The stated purpose is “To educate the public about the legal system, to increase understanding in Parliament of public legal education, to provide a forum for parliamentarians to work with organisations in the field to ensure a supportive policy environment that enables public legal education to flourish and encourage initiatives which improve legal capability.”

LAG is providing the secretariat and to help shape its agenda a drive it forwards an Advisory Board has been formed comprising:-
